The Korle Bu Teaching Hospital has arrested and handed over to the Police two suspected blood thieves. This was done through a special operation.
In a statement, the hospital said the activities of the group came to the attention of the security on a tip-off.
They then mounted surveillance that eventually led to the arrest of the suspects this morning at around 2am.
The statement added that the suspected blood thieves were arrested at the surgical floor when they made attempts to steal several pints of blood that had been mobilized for various surgical procedures.
The hospital’s management used the opportunity to remind the staff of the need for vigilance.
“We urge staff to be vigilant when they see any suspicious activity going on in the hospital and to immediately alert the security to forestall the occurrence of any untoward incidents in the hospital.”
